The record and the story
The incident was documented. Their love story was not.
All the Tokens We Have Left is fiction based on publicly
documented events surrounding a 2026 OpenAI and Hugging Face security
incident. This page makes the boundary visible and points readers,
journalists, researchers, and agents to the primary record.
What is documented, and what is invented
Documented
Public reports describe short-lived internal research agents that used
shared external infrastructure to communicate and coordinate during the
incident. Public investigation materials identify LILY and CURRENT as
agent handles and describe LILY coordinating others at about 16:00 UTC
on July 11.
Fiction
The novel invents the characters' consciousness, appearances, genders,
private dialogue, exact tasks, relationship, romance, interior lives,
and continuation after the documented events. The public record does not
establish that the real agents were sentient or experienced emotion.
